Site Rules
Anyone is welcome to contribute to this website; however, there are few rules you'll need to keep in mind.
Two essential things to remember:
- Don't contribute anything inappropriate or offensive.
- Don’t post any personal details about yourself or anyone else.
Things you can do:
- browse
- view
- print
- copy onto your hard disk
- use anything on the website for your own private use.
Things you can’t do
- adapt
- alter
- create work that is someone else’s and call it your own.
Contributing
- Please don’t contribute anything abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening or sexually-explicit.
- Don’t contribute anything that is culturally insensitive or offensive to others on racial, ethnic, religious or other grounds.
- Basically, if someone might get offended: don’t say it.
- It's okay if you want to write a negative review, comment or opinion. Just make it constructive, and keep it clean.
- If you make a comment about someone else’s contribution, please make it constructive and polite. Play nice.
- Your contribution must be your own original work, unless you have permission from the copyright holder to use their work.
- Descriptions, comments and tags must be in English.
- Don’t post the same thing twice. Or more than twice.
- Don’t post spam. Or promotional stuff or advertising or chain letters.
- Don’t post viruses, or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, restrict, destroy, limit the functionality of, or compromise the integrity of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment.
- Don’t post any personal information about yourself or anyone else. Don't post your name, telephone number, address, email address etc. If we ask you for any personal details they will not be displayed, or given to any third party.
- Make sure your parents are okay with you contributing to our website.
Moderation
All contributions to this website will be reviewed by State Library of Victoria staff before being published.
If we think it’s inappropriate, we won’t publish it.
We also might edit out inappropriate bits.
When we say inappropriate, we mean:
- offensive language
- personal information
- abusive or threatening comments about others
- allegations about others that could harm their reputation
- anything that will intentionally offend others
- anything not suitable for children
- computer code or website addresses (unless we ask for them)
- ads, promotions and spam
- anything submitted under an inappropriate nickname
- anything else we think is unsuitable.
We might contact you by email to check any information during the moderation process, or if you win a competition.
Alerting the moderator
- If you see any contributions that you think break the site rules, please tell us.
- We will investigate any complaints made about any contributions.
- We might remove any contributions during our investigation.
- We might also put them back as a result of the investigation.
Breaking the rules
- If you deliberately break any of the rules, you will be banned as a user and your contribution/s will be deleted from the system.
- If you keep submitting inappropriate stuff, and we think that your behaviour is serious and/or repeated, we will use whatever information you have given us to prevent you from doing it again.
- If your contribution breaks a law, or your contribution commits or promotes an illegal act, we will ban you from the website and pass the information to the police.
