File 17612It's Robert Louis Stevenson Day!

Thanks to ol' Rabbie we have glorious tales like Treasure Island (the ultimate pirate story and the birth of pirate talk), Kidnapped and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Without Robert Louis Stevenson there would be no 'Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum', no Pirates of the Caribbean, no Muppet Treasure Island. And so we celebrate him!

The 13th of November was his birthday... but he gave it away to a twelve-year old girl, because she was sad that her birthday was 25 December. That's how awesome he was.

You can join in today's celebrations with a special Robert Louis Stevenson moustache, a Jolly Roger pirate flag, or some of his wonderful written words. Use the hashtag #RLSDay on all good social media sites.

(Thank you Edinburgh City of Literature for organising the festivities!)
