This week I've been giving Chinese painting workshops.

First I taught the four treasures of a Chinese painting studio - brush, paper, inkstone and inkstick. Then how to hold a Chinese brush.

Step one: painting the stem of the bamboo

Step 2: Painting the notches and the branches

Step 3: Adding the leaves

Step 4: Painting baby chicks

Here are some wonderful samples of students' work

Yes, I love this aspect of Chinese painting too. Each piece is so original and beautiful.

Incredible how much difference in character each painting has, even though each one uses the same elements in its composition! Must reflect the character of the artist. Steve
