Inky's Choice: Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant

3 reasons* to read Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant by Tony Cliff:

File 180591. Delilah. Any wild stories you may have heard about her do not do her justice. She is brave, a skilled fighter, witty, and just a little bit (okay, maybe a lot) of a deviant. I am madly in love with her.

2. It's got everything - a tale of adventure (pirates and prison escapes!), set in Turkey back in the 19th century, with just a tiny dash of fantasy (Delilah's preferred method of travel is by flying boat).

3. The illustrations (yes, it's a graphic novel) are gorgeous, with colours so bold that I just want to bury my face in them. They're also very cleverly juxtaposed with the text - ie graphic novel perfection.

But graphic novels are like a movie on paper!

I'm so in love with Delilah. And Selim (the Turkish lieutenant). He's a tea connoisseur!

I'm not sure that graphic novels are my thing, but the first two points make it sound amazing. *wistful sigh*
