The Bad Beginning

Author-Lemony Snicket

Publisher-HarperCollins

Publication Date- September 30th 1999

When the Baudelaire children’s' parents perish in a house fire, that's just the beginning of a series of very unfortunate events. Violet, Klaus and Sunny are very wealthy children, one day they were at the beach and a man starts walking towards them. When the man was close enough they realised that it was a friend of their family Mr Poe. Unfortunately he told them about the bad news. They thought there life couldn’t get any worse until they were forced to live with their closest relative Count Alof.   Olaf, a despicably dirty person who makes the children cook and clean for him, while he pounds booze with his completely untalented theater troupe. While the Baudelaire’s are busy doing chores for the Count, the Count is busy planning evil ways to get his hands on the Baudelaire's vast fortune but Violet has to be at least 18 till the money can be taken out of the bank.

I loved this book and think every bit was good nothing was bad or boring. I recommend you read this book and the rest of the series because you will enjoy it more and more every time you read it. I think most people will like this book but people who read books that have happy endings keep away from this. In my opinion Lemony Snicket is a great author and one day the story must have just popped up in his head, well not the whole book just main parts.

During the holidays, I read a few books and my favourite was the first in "The Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket, entitled, "The Bad Beginning". The Bad Beginning tells the story of three, very smart and ordinary children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny. One day, their perfect, wealthy world turns grey, when their parents die very suddenly in a car crash, and they are forced to live with their geographically closest, yet horrible distant relative, Count Olaf. His evil plan is set in place to take the family's fortune and kill the children. Will Violet, Klaus and Sunny ever find their happy, normal life again?

This fantastically descriptive book is suitable for ages 10-14 years. I would recommend reading it if you like twisted plots because there are many complications that the childrens must survive throughout the course of the book. It is a short read but is certainly very memorable. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.

this book is one of my favourites and it will always be.

this book has mystery action and even romance!

it starts with 3 children that have just found out their house and their parents have been burnt in a fire, this creates great sadness for the children which makes htem more and more determined to be great!

The Bad Beginning is about three Baudelaire children named, Violet, Klaus and Sunny. Violet is the strongest and eldest, Klaus is smart and talented and Sunny is a young little strong baby. They were rich and wealthy untill their house and parents die. They go to live with a wicked uncle and has trouble living there. You will never know what will happen next. Read the whole series. It is very interesting. There are 13 books in total.

When I was reading this book it got me thinking into what would it be like to live like that would it be alright or would it be scary, because the title of the book 'The Bad Beginning' tells you a lot, because when I pick up this book I was enthralled into reading it I wanted to know more about because I watched the movie first and then I just wanted to read the series.

This is one of my favourite books ever, the series is also my favourite series. Il ove them because they are very funny, interesting and very well written. It can make you laugh again and again. (I've read them 3 times and they still make me laugh)

They story is about three unfortunate siblings whose parents have died in a fire shrouded by mystery. They are taken in by Count Olaf an evil man who only wants there enormous fortune. But when the children figure this out they try too tell people but no one will listen becuase they are only a couple of kids.

I would reccommend this book to anyone and everyone becuase I love it!

The Bad Beginning is the first in the thirteen-part series a Series of Unfortunate Events. If you haven't read the blurb, read it before you read the book; don't say I didn't warn you! It is very unhappy and all that, but it can also be funny. Three marvellous siblings, unfortunately orphaned and sent to live with their relative Count Olaf, who has plans for the money that will inherit once they are eighteen . . .

The series is very cleverly written. Lemony Snicket, as well as being the author, is also a sort of character at times; his style of writing is unique. At times he will go on at length to explain the meaning of a particular word, which is irritating sometimes but at other times very funny. For example, I had no idea what a portmanteu was before I read this series! take note of the fact that there are thirteen chapters in the book, also, which is very unfortunate for those who believe that thirteen brings bad luck.

Suitable for younger and older readers, but don't read it if you like books with bright, happy endings, because this series has a satisfying although possibly slightly miserable ending.
