The legend of King Arthur has been found in many stories. This well written novel has a different take on this legend as it is set in the year 475. The main character is Alexa. She dreams of breeding horses that will help her father claim victory over the barbarians. Her path is crossed with the famous historical figure, Artorius or King Arthur when he visits with his father. When her father is killed in battle, Alexa realizes that she has been promised to Artorius’s father, who is much older than she is. To avoid this future, Alexa sets off on a journey to find her dream horse; on the way she discovers adventure, excitement and what it means follow your dreams.
The author, L.S. Lawrence is a qualified historian with two degrees in history. He is also a skilled author, he written two other books in this historical fiction genre. He writes about times in history that the readers mightn’t be so familiar about. His descriptive yet exciting language helps the readers to understand what the times were like. The many historical details do not go unnoticed as you learn about Europe in the 5th century. The most well written part of this story would be the battles because it captures what it was like to fight in these times.
This novel would be in the historical fiction genre and it would be best suited for younger and older readers with a love for historical fiction, the legend of King Arthur and horses. ‘Horses for King Arthur’ includes many themes such as adventure, friendship and a hint of romance.
