Author:  C.S. Lewis

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was many people′s introduction to the wonders and enchantment of Narnia when it was first published almost 50 years ago. Since then, the hearts and imaginations of millions of readers have been captured by the story of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, who step through a magic wardrobe into Narnia, once the peaceful land of talking beasts, dwarfs, giants and fauns, but now frozen into eternal winter by the evil White Witch.

-THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA-

THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE

BY C.S. LEWIS

BOOK REVIEW

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is one book in the series of seven famously recognised as The Chronicles of Narnia. The novel was literally a children’s classic at time of its initial publication over sixty years ago and was the second in the series.  It was also, probably, the most popular and well-known novel out of the entire series. Set in the imaginary magical world of Narnia, the chronicles involve the adventures of four children, Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter, Aslan the King of Narnia and the main antagonist, the White Witch, who endlessly schemes to steal his throne.

This novel holds great sentimental value to me and although I have read it numerous times it still continues to fascinate and intrigue me. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel and I highly recommend it to children even vaguely interested in the fantasy genre. However, compared to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies by J.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia seems to be a rather basic example of the fantasy genre. This novel is directly aimed at children aged nine and above. The novel has a timeless touch and, in my most honest opinion no child’s early literacy is complete without it. It’s simply a must read.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

Four children is sent to the countryside during the war and discovers a magical wardrobe that leads them to the world of Narnia. The White Witch rules the land ruthlessly while the Narnians await the day when Aslan the Lion comes back and a certain four children to defeat the White Witch.

This magical classic is one of the greatest books of all times (including the six other books) and is a lovely book full of happy tidings and tragedies. This is recommended for all ages.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is without a doubt one of the greatest books of all times (along with the other books in the series), and can be quite easily dubbed as a children's classic. It's storyline is fantastic, and has the themes present in every person's childhood- magic, adventure, and being able to travel to a different world through a portal. It is beautifully written, and has a fantastic plot that pulls you in every word of the way. You can hardly put it down, and you'll be thinking about it for days after, sometimes even imagining that you are Lucy, and hiding out in closets and wardrobes until Narnia is ready to let you in. The whole Chronicles of Narnia is a fantastic read, with this book being the best known and possibly the most popular.
