A Brief History of Montmaray, Michelle Cooper

Officially, the head of our household is Uncle John, who is Aunt Charlotte's brother and Veronica's father (and the King of Montmaray), but he's rather distracted on his good days, and downright alarming on his bad ones.

Sophie FitzOsborne lives in a castle on the tiny, barren island of Montmaray, along with her little sister Henry, her intellectual cousin Veronica, and her mad uncle, King John. It’s hard to imagine that anything from the outside world could ever intrude into their little kingdom, but it’s 1936 and the world is changing. When two strangers appear on the island, Sophie suddenly has to reassess everything she ever thought she knew, and her simple, uncomplicated life spirals out of control into a nailbiting adventure. Fans of Dodie Smith’s I Capture the Castle will love Sophie’s lively, charming voice and her eccentric family.

A Brief History of Montmaray is longlisted for the Golden Inky.
