This afternoon, the 2009 Inky Awards were launched in a live broadcast through Elluminate. The online session was abuzz with excitement, as teachers, students, and readers from across Australia, logged in to hear the announcement of the longlisted titles for the 2009 Inky Awards.
The session was attended by 2008 Golden Inky winner, James Roy, who spoke about the importance in creating opportunities for young adult readers to express their opinions on young adult literature, and the value of having an award that allows the reader to vote for their favourite title.
The Inkys Longlist – 10 Australian titles for the Golden Inky, and 10 Australian titles for the Silver Inky, were then announced by 2009 Inkys Judges Steph Bowe and Adele Walsh. The Inkys Longlist is now available online .
The Inkys Creative Reading Prize was also launched. This year, entrants can create work based on ANY book of their choice. More details on here.
Finally – for those of you who missed the launch, a recording is available for you to watch in instant replay here.

fantastic launch.
now I’m crossing my fingers that “Everything Beautiful” makes it onto the shortlist. please please please.
I love the longlist - “If I Stay” and “Paper Towns” are my favourites. Yaaaaaaaay! ^_________^ Also, just to clarify - when you say we can base our work on ANY book, do you mean ANY book? (Okay, that sounds like a dumb question, but just to make sure…)
The book that I want to be on the short list is Hunger Games. PLEASE?
