Martin family birthday breakfasts followed a strict tradition. First, there were Belgian waffles, made by Belinda, the beloved Hopewell Hotel cook. These were served up with an array of toppings: chocolate syrup, fresh lemon whipped cream, stewed strawberries, and powdered vanilla sugar. The air should have been thick with wafflely perfume. Instead, there was an acrid, confusing smell, undercut by a light touch of smoke.
It’s my last day here at insideadog and I’m sad to go. Thanks so much for having made me feel welcome; for not having thrown tomatoes, or pointed and laughed at my inane ramblings ( well not to my face anyway, and lets face it, that’s all any of us can ask!) and for having taken time to tune in while I was here.
Today was my husband’s birthday, actually, so I spent a lot of time wrestling with cellotape and wrapping-paper, then going to restaurants and the like. It’s a great relief that I made it in under the wire before my time ran out so that I could say goodbye!
I hope the next resident has as much fun here as I’ve had ( BTW, the milk in the fridge is good for another two days; I left some Irish tea bags in the cupboard, and just ignore the burn marks in the carpet. It wasn’t me, I swear.)
I’m sorry I didn’t get the chance to do a new cartoon to say good by with - but I managed to get the drawing of Embla and Razi coloured, and thought you might like to see it. I always prefer the purity of a black and white image, but still, I like to challenge myself by using colour (especially as it terrifies me so) so here it is; a passionate kiss on parting!
Thanks again insideadoglings. I hope we see each other again soon.
Edited to say: HEY! I just realised that you AUS guys are back in school today! Dudes, I hope you have a great time meeting up with your mates after the summer holidays (and I hope the term flies until the mid-term break)
