Fanfiction: Sherlock Holmes (with a surprise)

This Sherlock Holmes fanfic is from Joe, who will very soon get a summer reading book pack.

Sherlock investigated the scene, blood had spattered over the walls and distinct boot marks trailed to a broken window.
“When did you discover this scene?”
“I found Walter gone at five o’clock this morning, from bed and this scene at five fifteen. All I can think is it was a competing author, Walter was so ingenious and successful.” The wife stood clutching her red and white beanie.
Sherlock paced the room, inspecting the carpet.
“I can tell that the victim was kicked repeatedly in the chest.” Sherlock indicated the spot he was talking about. Watson nodded his head as if he understood but then a frown came upon his face and he asked,
“How can you tell that? There’s only blood!”
“Elementary my dear Watson, there are bits of hair here and just below that is the area most blood has stained the carpet.” Sherlock straightened up and announced to a distraught widow, “We shall find your husband’s killer!”

“Where to now Mr. Holmes?” Watson asked.
“We are going to Whyte and Beerd cobblers. The boot marks left, indicated a well made boot and Ard Whyte is the only respectable cobbler around for forty miles.”

The tinkling bell indicated customers and a small, wizened cobbler ran forward.
“Oh, good morning Mr. Holmes another set of shoes? My, the other one’s have worn out fast, I’ll give you them for free. And a friend! Good! Good! Please sit down, let me measure.”
“No Ard, I’ve come on business,” the tiny man looked sheepish, “I wish for you to tell me who has bought shoes from you in the last two weeks.” Ard squinted and thought.
“No one new… hang on! A man came in wanting a bright yellow pair of boots!”
“That would figure,” Sherlock cried, “some yellow had peeled off on the broken glass of the window.” Ard smiled and retreated to the counter and pulled out a small filing draw, “He didn’t leave his name but all I can tell you is he has a moustache, glasses, a woollen hat and a strange dress sense, he seemed to love yellow and black. He also was on his way to a printing factory, said he wanted to wanted some help tracking down an old friend.”
“Look’s like he tracked down his friend all right!”

“Yellow and Black, glasses, moustache…” Watson kept reciting through the taxi ride to the printing factory as if he suddenly might forget it.
The taxi arrived at the factory and the pair stepped out into the musty, dead air. They walked up to the factory and rapped on the doors. A man stepped out in a suit,
“How may I help you?” he enquired pompously,
“We’d like to know about your writer Walter, he’s dead!” The suited man’s eyes popped from their sockets and he quickly ushered them inside.
“He was murdered today at approximately four fifty three am. We are here to know who enquired about him.” The suited man eyed them suspiciously and reached for the phone. “Hello, Agatha, look through my diary, it’s on my desk and see who I was meeting on the 14th.” He set the receiver down and spoke very slowly. “He left no name, only the address fifty-six Richmond street.” With that Sherlock jumped from his seat and left the room, leaving Watson to tell the man who they were in the first place.

Holmes fingered his derringer in one pocket and toyed with the handcuffs in the other, the door swung open revealing a tall man. Holmes took a deep breath,
“Odlaw?” The man nodded, Sherlock whipped his gun out from his pocket and pointed it at him.
“Where’s Wally?”
